Common Sense Genetics/ Triple Hil Sire had their annual meeting this week. Their breeding philosophy makes so much sense but runs somewhat counter to mainstream Ai industry which always brings out some naysayers that seem to enjoy the free food and finding fault. Oh well, 150 ish in attendance and over 4800 units sold on the day… someone must be finding success with the program.
Nearly 1000 head consigned this week again. Sold 141 dairy cows on a strong market. Glassbrenner Farms, Boscobel had 11 cows 2000- 2800. Also 2100 Robert Riehle, Colby. 2000 Adam & Karen Voigts, Wilton. Many cows 1300 – 2000.
Springing Holstein heifers 1300- 1925. Opens 95- 1.15. Holstein heifer calves 10- 65.
Breeding bulls 1100- 2025. Market bulls up to 1.10.
Choice Holstein steers 1.42- 1.49. Crosbreds up to 152.50. Top this week 1.57. Holstein feeder steers 1.05- 1.40. Beef feeders up to 2.40. Holstein bull calves 80- 165. On Monday in Thorp sale many Holstein bull calves 170- 285 with beef calves up to 400 per head.
Herd dispersal of 32 bred beef cows sold mostly 1300- 1800, top 2050. Averaged 1.18 per lb. 2 fancy Angus bred heifers 1170 lbs @ 2000.
143 market cows. 20% sold 88- 1.00 per lb. Several 1.03- 1.08. 50% sold 75- 87 with only one cow under 60 and no cows under 57.
3x3x8 Alfalfa 90- 110. 3x4x8 Alfalfa 220- 250. First crop rounds and squares 37- 60. Second and third crop 45- 65. 3x4x8 wheat straw 80- 90. Small squares grass 2.75- 4.25.
